Buddy Holly and The Crickets first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show on December 1st, 1957, fresh off the release of their debut album. The band consisted of Niki Sullivan (rhythm guitar), Joe Mauldin (stand-up bass), Jerry Allison (drums), and Buddy (lead guitar and vocals). They all wore bow-ties and sport coats, and Buddy wore his trademark horn-rimmed glasses. The foursome played “That’ll be the Day,” the first single off their album. Buddy was hard not to like, with his goofy charisma, innovative vocal style, and a very catchy tune. The result was pure gold: the track would reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 soon after their performance on the show.

That night they also played “Peggy Sue”, a song named for Jerry Allison’s girlfriend and future wife. That song shot up the charts to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Chuck Berry – Roll over Beethoven 1972 live

Im gonna write a little letter,
Gonna mail it to my local dj.
Its a rockin rhythm record
I want my jockey to play.
Roll over beethoven, I gotta hear it again today.

You know, my temperatures risin
And the jukebox blows a fuse.
You know, my hearts beatin rhythm
And my soul keeps on singin the blues.
Roll over beethoven and tell tschaikowsky the news.

Well if you reel and rock it,
Go get your lover, reel and rock it
Roll it over and move on up just
A trifle further and reel and rock it,
one another
Roll over beethoven and tell tschaikowsky the news.

Roll over beethoven,
Roll over beethoven,
Roll over beethoven,
Roll over beethoven,
Roll over beethoven and tell tschaikowsky the news.

(Instrumental)

Well, well,Well, early in the mornin Im a-givin you a warnin
Dont you step on my blue suede shoes.
Hey diddle diddle, I am playin my fiddle,
Aint got nothin to lose.
Roll over beethoven and tell tschaikowsky the news.

Roll over beethoven,
Roll over beethoven,
Roll over beethoven,
Roll over beethoven,
Roll over beethoven and tell tschaikowsky the news.

For more info -
http://www.eagle-rock.com/artist/393DC1/Jerry+Lee+Lewis

Jerry Lee Lewis is one of the founding fathers of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He was one of the original Sun Records quartet along with Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash who between them defined the music of a generation. His recording career has stretched from the mid-50′s to the present day and his unique style of piano playing has influenced scores of musicians over the years.
This concert, recorded at London’s Hammersmith Apollo in 1989, features “the killer” in performances of his classic tracks such as Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On, What I’d Say, High School Confidential and Great Balls Of Fire all delivered in his own inimitable fashion.
Joining him on stage are a great list of guests including Van Morrison, Dave Edmunds, John Lodge, Brian May, Stuart Adamson and Dave Davies.
This track is from the Eagle Vision DVD “Jerry Lee Lewis And Friends”, available now.
